Its been almost 30 years since I first visited the Whitsundays, so for my visit this time I wanted to make sure to see those magnificent fish and corals. It didnt disappoint. Although what I did learn is that somewhere between 50% to 100% of hard coral was lost during cyclone Debbie. And I must say, the captain (no he did not look like Johnny Depp) of the Ocean Rafting boat I had the pleasure of getting on advised that we were indeed fortunate that the sun was out and it was low tide, because if it wasn’t, we would have just been snorkling in murkey water.
I didnt care, could have swam around that ocean watching the fish all day long. Another pinch me moment. I am here in this magical place, waiting for a mermaid to appear, or maybe my Captain Jack Sparrow.
I also learnt that as I stood there looking at the magical Whitehaven Beach that it was indeed the 3rd most photographed place in Australia. So magical it took my breath away.
My mate Les did ask if I had indeed dyed my hair to camoflauge myself into the ocean, and that little girl in me, who would have spent the day pretending to be a mermaid, thought how magical that would indeed be.
So below are some of the moments I caught on film (or is that even a saying anymore), that I hope you all enjoy. Take yourself back to that child with the wild imagination. π§ββοΈ π§ββοΈ
